Message from the Principal

To our Cameron Heights CI students and families,

I want to address a serious situation at our school today.

A hold and secure was issued at Cameron Heights Collegiate Institute around 9:40 a.m. this morning due to a threatening message found on school property. The message read, “School shooting today (Tuesday) at 9:50 a.m. Cancel school today. Come tomorrow. Watch out bitches.” This threat was reported to the Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) and they are currently investigating to determine the author of the message. The hold and secure was enacted for approximately one hour as a precaution to ensure the safety and well-being of our staff and students while police made the initial investigation.

We have experienced a situation across our district over the past few weeks where some individuals have posted threats. In our current climate, it is unacceptable and morally abhorrent to makes threats towards members of the school community. Students have a right to learn in a safe environment without fear. Threats are never a joke. We take any intimidation or threat of violence seriously and the authors of these threats will be held accountable.

As we work closely with our partners at WRPS, we ask for the ongoing assistance of our students to report any information you may have of this incident. You can confidentially report things that concern you to any teacher, administrator or local police. You can also contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 without fearing that you will be identified.

We want to thank our partners at WRPS for helping to keep our schools safe places to learn. We will always take whatever precaution is necessary to ensure the safety of our students and staff. Please feel free to call the CHCI Administration at 519-578-8330 with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Ray Teed, Principal
