As our students and staff near the finishing line for quadmester 1, we wanted to connect and offer some information on what the upcoming days will look like.

Term Marks and Removal of Exam Days

The WRDSB, in line with Ministry of Education guidance, has decided to remove a 70% term and 30% final evaluation split and base secondary students’ final quadmester grades on 100% term work. There will be no formal final exam schedule.

The exam and final evaluation days that usually fall at the end of a semester will now be summative days. On the summative days (November 11, 12 and 13) students will not attend in person, but will work from home to complete any remaining term work.

Students will have the opportunity to meet with both their Course 1 and Course 2 teachers by appointment on each summative day. Teachers will be available to support students in finishing their course assignments and wrapping up their learning for the quadmester.

This change provides the flexibility students need to demonstrate their learning and teachers need to use their professional judgement in determining a final grade. It also removes the pressures of an exam schedule in the accelerated timelines of a quadmester.

Summative Days

The following offers an overview of when teachers will be available to students for which course on November 11, 12 and 13 in the in-person and distance learning programs.

Report Cards

Based on Ministry guidance, there will be one report card per quadmester that will communicate a final grade, learning skills, attendance and will include teacher comments. Report cards will be distributed the week of November 23. Additionally, the MyWay online portal provides information about final grades.

Changes for Quadmester 2

With the conclusion of quadmester 1 approaching, we are once again reorganizing our secondary schools and Distance Learning Program in preparation for the beginning of quadmester 2.

This may involve changing timetables to accommodate the mode of learning changes requested by our families. If a timetable change is needed as a result of the reorganization, guidance counsellors may reach out to students to select an alternative course. Students can expect to hear more about their classes prior to the start of quadmester 2.
