At last night’s Committee of the Whole meeting, trustees appointed the new student trustees for the 2018-19 school year. We would like to welcome Oscar Judelson-Kelly, a Grade 11 student from Cameron Heights CI, and Ben Wahl, a Grade 11 student from Waterloo CI.
WRDSB has two student representatives who are selected each year by the Board-wide Association of Student Council Chairs. Student trustees take part in discussions and debate during public meetings. The term for the new student trustees will run from August 1, 2018 to July 31, 2019. Learn more about the role of trustees.
“Student trustees play a critical role around the table throughout the school year, as they act on behalf of more than 63,000 students,” said Scott McMillan, Chair of the Board.
Oscar and Ben are eager to continue the good work of their predecessors, Kimia Shaban and Marko Stojaković. Ben is excited to step into the role of representing student voice at the Board of Trustees. He views student trustees as “the connection between the Board and the students.”
Oscar agrees and is looking forward to his new responsibility. “We have a lot of work to do in getting our student voice out there,” he said. “I want to bring issues to the Board table that students care about.”
Congratulations Oscar and Ben.
