We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Meena Waseem, a Grade 12 student from Cameron Heights Collegiate Institute (CHCI), who is one of 35 winners, from more than 5,000 applicants, to receive a prestigious Loran Award.
Waseem, now a Loran Scholar, will receive a $100,000 scholarship to any Canadian university she chooses. Her focus: health sciences or humanities. According to her Loran bio, she “is student council president and an avid public speaker on mental health and diversity. Meena played percussion in band and chaired a club that eases students’ transition into high school. She organized [CHCI’s] first-ever mental health assembly and organized a successful hurricane relief fundraiser. Meena co-directed summer camps focusing on empowerment for children and youth.”
Congratulations on this incredible accomplishment. We can’t wait to see what you do next!
About Loran Award
Recognizing that academic performance is not the only indicator of future value to the community, a group of dedicated volunteers set out to find and support young Canadians who demonstrate character, service and leadership potential. The Loran Award is not a reward for past achievements, but an investment in a young person’s potential future path of high impact. Their scholars pursue careers in a wide range of areas, readily take on greater responsibilities and share a lifelong commitment to leading with integrity. Offered in full partnership with 25 Canadian universities, a Loran Award is valued at approximately $100,000 over four years of undergraduate study.
