Dear Cameron Heights Collegiate Institute students and families,
This morning, staff learned of a message directed to the school that was threatening in nature. This message was immediately reported to the Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) and our school was placed in a hold and secure at approximately 9:30 am.
As part of our hold and secure protocol, students and staff remained inside and all exterior doors were locked so no one could enter or exit the building. Staff and students were safe inside the school or in their classroom portable at all times. Our school remained in a hold and secure for approximately two hours until we were assured by WRPS that it was safe to return to our regular school routines.
No matter the intention, we take any intimidation or threat of violence seriously and student and staff safety is our priority.
We want to thank our partners at WRPS for helping to keep our schools safe places to learn. We will always take whatever precaution is necessary to ensure the safety of our students and staff.
Sometimes, incidents like this can cause students to become anxious or feel uncomfortable. If your child is feeling uneasy and would like to speak with someone, supports are available at school.
Sincerely,
Dave Wilson
Principal
