Hello CHCI families,

This message is to help clarify the update about Grade 9 and 10 Evaluation Days which was posted on WRDSB websites and School-Day on September 24, 2025.

In Ontario, the final grade for a course is composed of a mandatory weighting by the Ministry of Education, with 30% of the course being based on a final evaluation, and 70% of the grade based on evaluations that have happened throughout the semester.

For the last 5 school years, Grade 9 and 10 students have not had required evaluations during the four designated final evaluations/exam days at the end of the semester. This evaluation policy is changing this year. Grade 9 and 10 students in compulsory courses will have an in-class component and a scheduled final evaluation, which may be an examination or another evaluation product.

CHCI grade 9 and 10 students will have required structured Final Evaluations in the special schedule at the end of semester for the following compulsory courses:

Grade 9 Grade 10
CGC1W – Geography CHC2D – History
SNC1W – Science SNC2D – Science
MTH1W – Math** MPM2D – Math
ENL1W – English ENG2D – English
FSF1D/FEF1D/FIF1D – French

Additional Grade 9 and 10 courses may also require attendance during the evaluation days.  Students will be notified in advance.

The Evaluation Days dates for these final evaluations this school year, for all grades are as follows.

  • Semester 1: January 23, 26, 27, 28
  • Semester 2: June 19, 22, 23, 24

The exact date of an evaluation will be determined by the scheduled daily class, with one block on each day.  For example: a student who has ENL1W in block A in semester one will be required to attend CHCI for a final evaluation on January 23rd; and a student who has SNC2D in Block D in semester one will be required to attend CHCI for a final evaluation on January 28.

Final Evaluations scheduled on these evaluation days may be postponed for various reasons including severe weather, bus cancellations, plant malfunctions, etc.  Families are asked not to plan events which require students to be absent from school on these evaluation days or on the days directly following the evaluation days, as these will be the days in which the postponed evaluations will be rescheduled.

Attendance is required for students for whom a final evaluation is scheduled in a course. Further information regarding the details of the evaluation days at the end of semester will be provided at a later date.

If you have questions about this information, please reach out to your student’s vice-principal.

Additional information on final evaluation changes may be found on the WRDSB website.
