ONTARIO SECONDARY SCHOOL DIPLOMA REQUIREMENTS
For students who entered Grade 9 in September 2023 or earlier
In order to earn an OSSD a student must:
- Earn 30 credits: 18 compulsory and 12 optional credits
- Complete 40 hours of community involvement activities
- Successfully complete the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT)
- Earn 2 online credits (opt-out option available)
Compulsory Credits
- 4 English (one per grade)
- 3 Mathematics (at least one in Grade 11 or 12)
- 2 Science
- 1 French as a Second Language
- 1 Canadian Geography
- 1 Canadian History
- 1 Arts
- 1 Health and Physical Education
- 0.5 Career Studies and 0.5 Civics
- Group 1: 1 additional credit in English or French as a second language* or a Native language or Classical or International language or Social Science and Humanities or Canadian and World Studies or Guidance and Career Education, or Cooperative Education*
- Group 2: 1 additional credit in Health and Physical Education orArts or Business Studies orFrench as a Second Language* orCooperative Education*
- Group 3: 1 additional credit in Grade 11 or 12 Science or Grades 9-12 Technological Education or French as a Second Language* or Computer Studies or Cooperative Education *
* A maximum of 2 credits in cooperative education and French as a Second Language can count as compulsory credits.

- Complete 40 hours of community involvement activities
- Successfully complete the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT)
- Earn 2 online credits (opt-out option available)
- Financial Literacy requirement (part of Grade 10 Compulsory Math, must earn 70% or higher)

- 1 Technological Education (Grade 9 or 10)
- 1 French as a Second Language

- 0.5 Career Studies and 0.5 Civics
- 1 STEM related course group including:
- Business Studies,
- Computer Studies,
- Cooperative Education,
- Mathematics <in addition to the 3 compulsory>,
- Science <in addition to the 2 compulsory>,
- Technological Education <in addition to the 1 compulsory>
