Community Involvement Hours

To meet the requirements for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma, all students must complete 40 hours of community involvement activities. Once you have finished your hours, please keep a record of them.

Awards

The Ontario Medal for Young Volunteers – presented to young volunteers between the ages of 15 and 24 for their actions and dedication to improve the quality of life in their communities and beyond.

The Ontario Volunteer Service Awards – in recognition of continuous years of service to a single community organization.

Minister’s Certificate of Recognition for Community Involvement – This new certificate celebrates your dedication to helping others and for completing more than 50 volunteer hours during high school. Additional Information:

  • Students may begin volunteer activities on the first of July after they leave grade 8.
  • This requirement is to be completed outside the student’s normal school instructional hours and in a variety of settings.
  • Students may not complete the hours through activities that are counted towards a school credit, through paid work, or by assuming duties normally performed by a paid employee.
  • MyWay is no longer available to record completed hours.
