Wednesday, in Atlanta, eight people were killed in a hate crime directed at the Asian community. The CHCI staff and administration would like to join the calls across the country to put an end to anti-Asian racism and violence.  We mourn the lives lost in the Atlanta area  and condemn the obvious racism and misogyny.  In our own communities, province and across our country, we should all stand for, and with, Asian Canadians. We know that incidents of anti-Asian racism have increased, and these trends are just the most recent manifestation of underlying and systemic injustices and prejudice against this group. The traumatic events in Atlanta have brought this hatred into light. We are committed to addressing these issues in our classrooms, and supporting our students and staff as we do so. While we do not stop our lessons every time a traumatic event occurs, we can and will take the time when members of our classrooms are feeling directly affected and are hurting. Events such as what happened yesterday impact us all differently. Students, please know that there are school staff available to provide support. Please let your teacher know if you would like to talk to someone.
